Day 1: Big Island Arrival
In the morning, fly directly to the Big Island of Hawaii. At the airport, you will be met by your travel ambassador who will assist you with transfer to your hotel. Upon check-in, the remainder of the day is leisure to walk along the beach or swim in the beautiful pool.
Day 2: Waterfalls and Manta Rays
On your first morning, your car and driver will pick you up to take you to Kona airport. There, you will take a executive-style Bell 407 helicopter into uninhabited valleys that showcase Hawaii’s wild, untamed beauty. Your pilot will land in the north of the island, where you will meet your guide for the hiking portion of the tour. The hike will cover approximately 1.5 – 2 miles over uneven rocky terrain with an elevation gain of approximately 200 feet. The pace is a relaxed walk. You will be walking through a nature preserve which has portions of an ancient Hawaiian agricultural site that has been restored. During this portion, you will have the opportunity to cool off in one of the waterfalls, whose temperature varies between the 60s and 70s depending on the time of year. You will also have a picnic lunch while enjoying a scenic view. Returning to the helicopter, you will soar to the coast flying over rocky cliffs and remote beaches to return to Kona.
This evening, you will board your catamaran and set sail in time to view the beautiful Kona sunset. After the sun sets and you’ve had time to take in the scenery, you will prepare for a night snorkel adventure with gentle manta rays. You will need to wear a swimsuit and a wetsuit top will be provided. The manta ray is among the largest fishes in the ocean with wingspans of up to 20 feet and more. The Kona Coast offers the best opportunity to encounter these amazing creatures. At night, spotlights are used to attract mantas that feed off the plankton illuminated by the light. As intimidating as these otherworldly mantas look, they are actually quite friendly and do not have stingers. After an hour swim with these beautiful creatures, you will return to the Kailua pier.
Day 3: Volcano Helicopter Adventure
Today, on your full day adventure, leave the faint-of-heart back home as you lift off from the Hilo airport in a helicopter with no doors. Your pilot will head for Kīlauea Volcano, which has been continuously erupting for 30 years, and is believed to be the home of Pele, goddess of fire, lighting and volcanoes. Your pilot will find the current volcanic action for a birds eye view. Even at 500 feet above the flowing lava and open vents, you will feel waves of hot air rolling off the subsurface flows, which can reach temperatures of 2,000 degrees!
Then cool off as your pilot takes you over Hilo’s lush rain forests, Mauna Loa’s vistas and the plunging Wai‘ānuenue (Rainbow Falls), so named for the rainbows you can see in the mist when the early morning sunshine hits the water. With nothing between you and the sights, you will return to Hilo knowing you have just had an exhilarating experience.
Please note, tour routes and sights visited may vary according to wind and weather conditions..
Day 4: Big Island to Maui
In the morning, depart the Big Island and fly to Maui. Transfer to Hotel Wailea, an adults-only intimate enclave set within the most exclusive resort community on Maui. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 5: Road to Hana
Early this morning your driver guide will pick you up for a day of adventure and incredible sights along the Road to Hana and looping around the entire mountain! First, if hungry, you will make a stop breakfast at a local favorite. Along the Road to Hana, your guide will make numerous stops, providing ample time to explore the highlights of Ke’anae Peninsula, Hanawi waterfall and the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa.
Enjoy fresh baked banana bread while taking in the remote coast line views and make a stop for lunch in the open air dining room at Travaasa Hana Hotel. The views on this trip are stunning and will provide endless sights for waterfalls, pristine valleys and spectacular seascapes. There is also an opportunity for swimming and short walks by various loop trails.
Day 6: Relaxation and Luau
Today is at your leisure to relax at your beautiful resort or to head to the beach for some fun by the sea.
This evening, your driver will then pick you up and bring you to the West Side of Maui for an authentic Hawaiian luau. A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party that is usually accompanied by vibrant entertainment and delicious, traditional food such as poi, kalua pig, poke, lomi salmon, opihi, haupia and beer. Of course the luau would not be complete without traditional Hawaiian music and hula!
When you arrive for the luau, you will be greeted with a fresh flower lei and shown to your own private table. For dinner tonight is a multi-course meal inspired by the culture and traditions of Polynesia. Each course represents a modern twist on traditional island cuisine as you are treated to four courses each representing a different island culture. For many visitors the highlight of a Maui luau is the amazing Samoan fire knife dance. Brave performers will treat you to death defying feats of astonishing dexterity as they pass the flaming knife through their legs and behind there backs, giving you a perfect send off for a perfect evening!
