Our Free Friday series showcases free things to experience on your travels. This week’s story takes us to India where, thanks to Google, there is free Wi-Fi in Mumbai.
Free Wi-Fi in Mumbai Railway Stations
Travelers to Mumbai this month will be met with a pleasant surprise: free Wi-Fi. Google teamed up with RailTel to bring this technological dream to the Bollywood Capital. This ambitious undertaking is the largest free public Wi-Fi project in India.
Free Wi-Fi hotspots in Mumbai include bus stations, railway stations, colleges, schools, and tourist spots. Currently, 500 Wi-Fi hotspots are active. An additional 700 are expected to hit the Mumbai free Wi-Fi network in May 2017.
How to Use Free Wi-Fi in Mumbai
Free Wi-Fi in Mumbai has some limits. Currently, Mumbai Wi-Fi is free for 1 GB or 30 minutes – whichever occurs first. After that, Wi-Fi requires a fee. This system will be in place through January 31, 2017. Beginning February 1, 2017, free Wi-Fi in Mumbai will be limited to 100 MB. Users may opt to pay a fee to continue data usage beyond that.
Users of Mumbai’s free Wi-Fi who experience problems, or wish to leave feedback, can tweet to @AS_Mum_WiFi for assistance.
